Description of service
The service was the retainer of a criminal defense lawyer on a DUI (driving while intoxicated) charge. The charge was for a relative of mine, and I helped in the process of securing a lawyer and with paperwork and technical stuff as well as emotional support. The $2,500 represented lawyer fee in full. There were a lot of other court costs and fines piled on top of it, but $2500 was the full fee for the service of the lawyer.
Review of Service
The whole process took almost a year and was a terrible burden. The lawyer was good, but in the end, the result seemed the same. It seems virtually impossible to get off of a DUI anyway, so I questioned the need to spend so much on a lawyer. I am not one to give any sort of legal advice but I am not sure if I would spend so much for a lawyer if I am going to be convicted anyway.
Tips
Like I said, I am not one to give any legal advice. But my tip would be to "shop wisely" and consult with a number of attorneys before jumping at the bit to retain one. Might be able to save some money that way.
