Description of service
I recently treated my daughter (and myself) to a mani-pedi. Well, actually, hubby got us both gift certificates for Christmas, which we waited until March to use. While getting into the pedicure seat, I managed to break a fingernail. It was almost completely ripped off and just hanging on by a little thread. I was just about to rip it off and decide that french manicure was out, when the nail tech said, "Don't touch it, I can fix that." What? Seriously? How could he fix it? Well, he used a procedure I'd never seen called silk wrap. Basically, he wrapped it with this "silk" that looked kinda like a thin piece of fabric like tape. Then, he put superglue over that, and just like magic - no more broken nail.
Review of Service
I was pleased that he was able to save the nail, but I was a little disappointed in the way it turned out. The top of the nail was a little rough, so the polish appeared to be bubbly on that finger. I'm sure this was probably related to the glue and he could've sanded it down to make it smooth, but he didn't charge me extra for the silk wrap, so I didn't want to complain.
Tips
If you break a nail and you don't want to cut them all down to match, definitely check with your salon to see if they offer this procedure. It was amazing that they were able to save it. I even removed the polish and repainted my nails twice before it grew completely back to where I could cut the broken part off, and the silk wrap kept the nail strong so it didn't break again, without the ugly "line" created when your nails grow out from acrylics.
