Description of service
Our school offers free speech therapy for those children who require help. My son has a lisp that is not severe, but he feels a bit embarrased by it. So, one of his teachers recommended the speech therapy for my son. He goes twice a week to the therapist for one hour. This service is offered after school, so he does not miss any school work. This is not private therapy; two other children also attend at the same time as my son. However, they all have the same speech problem, so the arrangement works out quite well.
Review of Service
I know how lucky we are to have this free service at our school. He attends a private school, so I guess we are sort of paying for it. The difference it has made in his speech is impressive. After one year of speech therapy, his lisp is so slight that you can barely tell he has one. In fact, the therapist told me he will probably only attend speech therapy for three or four months next school year. She has given us exercises to do over the summer and he diligently does them everyday.
Tips
Call your school; you might be surprised to find out your school offers this service as well! Also, ask family and friends if they know of a reputable speech therapist.
