the Cost of Speech Therapy

My son had a slight stutter that became apparent when he was 8 years old. His school offered one on one speech classes for 1 hour per week. The total cost per month was $150.00.

This was a great service. It worked out well for several reasons. One reason was that it took place at his school. This meant I didn't have to spend time driving him to and from a class. It also cut down on our costs for after school programs as we only had to pay for 4 days a week instead of 5. The other thing we liked about this program is that it was one on one classes. His speech improved greatly within the first 2 months of him taking classes. Unfortunately the option was discontinued before we could get as much from the program as we'd liked.

If you have the option of getting one on one classes I'd definitely recommend doing so. Even if it costs more, you'll get a lot more out of it than group classes. Make sure the therapist is someone your child can trust and feels comfortable with. I've found that speech therapists who try to make the experience fun for the kids are much more effective.
