Description of service
The dentist I went to performed a dental filling, which is a repair of a decayed tooth. The service includes a stay in the dentist's facility, which was a small commercial office. Prior to the actual filling, x-ray pictures and an inspection are necessary. The dentist prepares your mouth with several tools including a saliva remover, an oral speculum, and a water dispenser. The dentist first does a local cleaning then uses a small tool to dig out the decay, called dental carries. The tool was a laser that clicked rapidly, though I have had dental fillings done with an actual drill. After clearing the decay, a substance is injected into/onto the excavated tooth, protecting it.
Review of Service
The quality of service I received was average and satisfactory. There was some discomfort from the hasty work of the dentist, but all staff were very sensitive to my needs. The tooth sensitivity caused by my cavity was gone and I did not need to go in for a follow-up visit.
Tips
If you're going to get a dental filling, I suggest getting a dentist recommendation from a friend so you can have the most comfortable experience. You should probably ask for a topical anesthetic before the drilling, but my dentist did not permit it for my small cavity. Definitely make sure you drink plenty of water before going to the dentist - you don't want to be caught thirsty in that chair while someone's working on you. Also make sure to ask if there are any up-front fees, as I know of someone who had to pay part of their filling on the spot.
