Description of service
Our HMO pays for healthcare for my husband, myself, and one minor child. The plan's coverage is very good. We have a ten dollar co-pay for doctor's visits. In addition, we only have to pay a ten dollar do-pay for lab tests, MRI's, and other medical tests. chemotherapy treatments also just involve the ten dollar co-pay. For hospitalizations, a $500 deductible per person, or $1000 per family must be met before benefits are paid. Prescription drugs are paid on a tier system, with the most common drugs costing five dollars per presciption. The highest costing prescriptions are thirty dollars. The plan does have the option of getting a three month prescription for the cost of two months.
Review of Service
Our out ot pocket expense to pay for our HMO is high, but we would be bankrupt without it, due to chronic medical problems. It paid all but $500 of my son's $30,000 prosthesis (he's an amputee), and it pays for my chemotherapy which I receive every three weeks (I pay a ten dollar co-pay for a $9,000 treatment. with our medical problems, we are very fortunate to have access to a good HMO.
The very few times I have had a problem with the MHO, I have been able to get through quickly to someone who straightened out the errors in a timely manner.
Tips
I would recommend going for the highest level of coverage available if you have any health concerns at all -- the extra you pay monthly will soon pay itself in reduced co-pays and deductibles.
