Description of service
This is the price our family pays for health insurance from an HMO. This is a monthly premium for two adults and three children under the age of 18. We are self-employed, so we had to get insurance on our own. The insurance plan we have does not have any deductibles. We pay a thirty dollar co-pay when we go to the doctor. Yearly physicals are not subject to the co-pay. Emergency room visits have a fifty dollar co-pay. Most medical procedures, surgeries, etc. are covered at a rate of 90% if we choose doctors in our network. We must have a referral from our primary care physician. We are only able to choose certain doctors from a pre-selected list. Prescriptions are not covered under this plan unless they are part of a hospitalization.
Review of Service
Overall, we think our insurance is very expensive. The only reason we even pay for it is in case something really bad happens that requires an expensive hospital stay or procedure. Luckily, we did not have any pre-existing conditions, so we were able to at least have some medical coverage. We are happy with the doctors in our network.
Tips
We shopped around for health insurance for a very long time before we made a decision. Make sure you understand all the fine print because many of the private health insurance policies are confusing.
