Description of service
The price quoted above is for the installation of basic telephone service at a home that was not previously wired to the standard telephone network. The costs included the installation of the point of access box from the telephone company on the house, and the running of one main telephone line into the basement of the house. Additionally, the cost includes the cost of running a line for the house from the point of access box to the nearest telephone pole approximately one eighth of a mile from the house.
Review of Service
The service that was provided to me was about what I expected from the telephone company in regards to the very basic in installation of the service to the household. As the service that was being subscribed to was limited to residential telephone service, I did not pay too much mind to the installation of the wires that were used, but the phone company's employee failed to properly filter the line upon installation, so I have a considerable amount of line interference as a result and would likely not be able to get DSL or other service through the phone line. That being said, the installation was on time and fairly quick, and the phone service works well otherwise despite the annoyance of the interference.
Tips
As most people do not have much option as to who their home telephone carrier is, the main focus should be on how quickly the installation occurred and the quality of the installation work. Ensure that the installer uses a line filter if possible to cut down on noise from the power lines and other wiring around, and ensure that the installer makes the connections in the house properly so that you do not have to make a large number of checks to see if the line is working properly once the installer leaves. Finding a possible problem before it becomes one is a good way to save on maintenance calls.
