the Cost of Gas and Electricity

My power bill is usually about $38; it has been as low as $35 and as high as $41, so I think this is the average.

The bill does not break down energy use per appliance or anything like that, so it's hard to know what cost the most. However, I have a gas heater (which hasn't been used for a while, so this price doesn't include a lot of heater use), I forget to turn lights off a lot, I have a gas stove/oven, a full-size refrigerator, and the basic kitchen appliances.

The bill will likely go up in the winter when I start using the heater more often.

There is only one power company that supplies my town, and they're not great with customer service, probably because they don't have to be. However, we don't usually have any power outages, even during rainstorms, and when we do, they get fixed really quickly.

This power company will not come light the pilot light if it goes out, like some will. When the pilot light has gone out, i have had to call my landlord to come fix it because the company won't, and it's really tricky to reach.

Often, there is only one power company in an area, so it's not like you can really shop around. However, you can familiarize yourself with all of the services that the company offers and take advantage of them. Some companies will break down the bill for you, so that you can see which days you used more electricity than others, and that can be helpful.
