Description of service
The price covered removal of two deciduous (baby) teeth from our dog's mouth ($50/each) and general anesthetic + recovery time ($100)
The procedure was performed at a regular vet's office, which provides a variety of care for house pets of all sorts. Prices for procedures vary depending on the complexity.
Review of Service
Our puppy was starting to whine while he was eating. My wife took a poke around in his mouth and found one molar on each side was sore. We took him to the vet and found his baby teeth weren't being pushed out the way they were supposed to by the adult teeth.
The vet originally wanted to do a local, but the dog simply wouldn't sit still for the needles. So he knocked the dog out and pulled out the teeth. Took all of 10 minutes once the procedure was underway. It was another hour before the dog woke up, an we were instructed to keep the holes clean of debris after the dog ate. The vet gave us a couple large syringe bodies to use to squirt sterile saline solution to clean them out after meals for the following week or so.
Tips
Retained baby teeth isn't a good thing. They can cause pain while the adult teeth come in and if they stay in, they can trap food against the adult teeth causing decay. It's certainly something to check for during the first of the adult checkups and get corrected right away.
