Description of service
We took Benji in for a bath and haircut, but once there, the vet called and asked if they could knock him out to clean his ears (he had an infection) and do some exploratory surgery on his paw pads because she thought he might have a splinter or a thorn stuck in there. While he was knocked out, I asked her to also clean his teeth. The teeth cleaning part cost $100. It would've been a little more (for anesthesia) if he hadn't already been knocked out for the other procedures.
Review of Service
I was not really happy with the vet bill overall, but I was pleased with the dental portion. His teeth were badly covered with yellow and brown tarter to the point where a few of them appeared rotten. I thought (and the vet initially agreed) that they may have to pull a couple teeth. However, I was very much surprised and pleased when I found out that he didn't have to lose any teeth, and when I picked him up at the vet, all his teeth were white and perfect!
Tips
My veterinarian recommended that I keep both my dogs on a hard-food only diet. I had been feeding a "homestyle" dog food - not soft canned food, but it's a moist food. Apparently, the crunchy food is important for keeping the tarter off their teeth - who knew?
