Description of service
It cost $1290 to have my daughter's wisdom teeth removed. Two were impacted and two were not, and they used 30 minutes of anesthesia to completely knock her out. The initial appointment to assess her and ask the surgeon questions was $40. It would've been more if they had to do x-rays, but our regular dentist sent over x-rays taken in his office.
Review of Service
I was pleased with the service. The surgeon was very patient in answering my questions and gave sound advice. He offered three different anesthesia options. We chose to go with the complete knock out because I thought it would be easier on my daughter, and it's what she preferred. Also, he explained that although there's always some risk with any surgery, it's better to go ahead and remove all 4 teeth at once, because as the patient gets older and the roots become more developed, the risk of hitting a nerve or increased infection risk after surgery increases. So, we chose to have all four teeth out at the same time.
Tips
Take the time to visit with the surgeon so you understand what's going to happen. Also, call your insurance company in advance to find out what's covered and what you may be responsible for. The dentist office can print off an estimate with the procedure codes that you'll need when you call your carrier. If you don't need to have the surgery right away (can wait about 6 weeks) then ask your dentist office to file a pre-determination with your insurance. Then you'll know FOR SURE what it's going to cost you. And if you're not comfortable with the surgeon your dentist recommends, seek a second opinion. It's important for you to be confident and comfortable.
