Description of service
The price covers mileage, insurance (not optional), and all taxes and fees for a 16 foot truck from Phoenix, AZ to Indianapolis, IN over four days including a weekend.
The rental company also offered moving supplies, tucks of other size -- from a generic passenger van through a 24 foot monster -- and the ability to return the trucks to any of their franchises across the country, including the one the truck was rented from. Prices vary depending on the distance traveled, the size of the truck, and how many days you need it for.
Review of service
My brother was moving with his girlfriend from Phoenix to Indianapolis after grad school and asked for some help moving his stuff. We rented a 16 foot truck and planned to drive it the distance as his girlfriend had flown ahead to IN to find them an apartment a couple weeks before.
The truck was in good shape when we started, but the AC conked out just as we were getting within the Indy city limits. It drove smooth and because it was a diesel it had decent mileage. All told, it was a pretty uneventful trip.
Tips
If you have to do a long distance drive, say cross country, stop every hundred miles or so to have a stretch and maybe a bite to eat, or get a driving partner so one can sleep while the other drives and you can switch off on the driving when the driver gets tired.
