Review of Service
The youth basketball league is a lot of fun for my now 6-year-old son. Practice is twice a week for an hour, and games are on Saturdays, and are only about an hour long. While it is not necessarily the most coordinated sport, and there is more time spent chasing the ball out of bounds than anything, it is a great way for little kids to learn the basics of the game of basketball, as well as teach a great sportsmanlike attitude toward all game-play. There is no score-keeping just yet, and all children are given an opportunity to play in each game. The game is three on three for five minutes each, and all children rotate in to play against each other.
Tips
Don't expect too much from the little ones in a youth basketball league. While they are getting some of the rules of game, there is a lot more information they will need to get. They will mostly have fun in this type of league, but not be remotely ready for the NBA at this point in their lives! Very little instruction is given regarding the actual plays and what each position on a team is meant to achieve--rather it is mostly a bunch of kids trying to make baskets and steal the ball--still good fun for all to watch!
