Description of service
Our local community center puts together teams of kids to play some games against each other. They practice at the local school gyms twice a week and then go down to once a week when the games start. Games are every Saturday. The coaches are dads, most of them used to play ball when they were in school. At this level, it takes a few parents to keep things moving at practice, so all the guys help out from time to time. Since there are enough teams to play, they don't have to travel. They play all their games at the same gym.
Review of Service
It is a great way for kids to learn about the sport and try something new. The cost is nominal and the skills they gain are amazing in such a short time. The focus on our team was teamwork, and I really appreciated that because they learned a very important life lesson. Our kids also were able to compare their teamwork to another teams "one man show" and they all agreed that being a team was better. Amazing!
Tips
Do your best to find a way to support your coaches. They are all volunteers and have busy lives, just like you. It is more fun for everyone if the parents pitch in whenever they can and make the coach's life a little easier. Appreciate his/her time and effort.
