Description of service
I had a 2 year old down comforter dry cleaned when I moved out of a house I shared with a smoker. I paid $35.00.
Review of Service
I shared a home with a smoker for 3 years. Even though he only smoked outside and in his room the smell of smoke still infused a lot of things in the home. Especially cloth type things that the smoke smell could be trapped in. I didn't notice when I was living there but once I moved into a non-smoking household the smell was almost overwhelming. I considered getting rid of the comforter but besides the smell was otherwise very much in love with it. Covering it with a new duvet cover didn't seem to help so I went to a local dry cleaning shop to have it cleaned. The first shop I went to said they did not have very much experience working with down. I then asked some friends if anyone had any recommendations and went to a place that specialized in specialty fabrics. I paid more than I would have at the first shop but the comforter came back smelling fresh and I do believe it was well worth the extra cost.
Tips
When having anything non-standard cleaned be sure to find someone who has experience working with that material. It is worth spending a little bit extra to make sure you don't have to have an item re-cleaned.
