Description of service
Spanish lessons for preschoolers were held at the preschool. The Spanish lessons were 30 minute sessions every week for 10 weeks. The price averaged out to $12 an hour for each parent. Handouts of the words the children were learning were also provided to parents.
Review of Service
A group setting for learning language works well in the basic rote learning phase. The group experience of repeating the words together can help young children stay focused on learning. However, it decreases the ability of the teacher to hear and correct a child who is incorrect. My child learned several dozen words in Spanish as well as a number of songs. His comprehension, however, was less correct, due to the teacher not having time to explain to those that did not hear the meaning of the word the first time.
Tips
Look for groups of 6 or less for language lessons. This is large enough to decrease the per child cost while allowing individualized attention when a child is wrong.
Do not use a language lesson provider simply because they come to the daycare. These teachers have a captive market for which parents have essentially the choice of yes or no. While not as convenient as your child having language lessons while you are at work and they are at school, seek out a language teacher no associated with the school, and you can find a better price per hour.
