Description of service
When we built our new home, we really wanted to spring for hardwood floors in our main living area (we have 10 cats and cleaning up fur balls on carpet was a nightmare we were quite sick of dealing with). The house we chose to build did not come standard with the option of anything other than carpet for the living area, so we went to our contractor and asked if there was any possibility of changing this option. He told us that he would get a price for us and came back with the $5000.00 price tag. We gave him the go ahead and our living area had hardwood flooring installed throughout. The price included all labor, installation, and supplies.
Review of Service
We loved our floors and were really happy to be able to get them. They have a thick clear coat on them and are SO easy to clean. I was really happy our builder was willing to work with us and allow the option (we were told that we were the first to ever request this option and that they were now going to make it an offer for everyone because so many people had visited our home prior to us moving in and loved the look). The contractor went above and beyond to work this out for us and we really appreciated it.
Tips
If you are building a home with a builder, do not be afraid to ask for things that are not actually listed on the list of options you are given. The worse they can say is no, but you could get lucky and get a yes like we did. The only thing I regret and never did was to get other quotes. It may have been cheaper to go with the included price of the cheap carpet and get the hardwood floors installed after we purchased the house; however, we wanted the price of the floors to be part of our mortgage, so it worked out fine for us.
