In July of 2007, I had my entire house tiled. I had already bought the tile on my own so the costs was for installation only. the tiles are 20X20' with no space between them. I also had the baseboards tiled. The only grout to be used was a thin layer to pull them altogether. The house is 2300 square feet. The installation was to take approximately 4 days. This was to include cleanup.
Review of Service
The installation was a nightmare from wherever. I used a tile layer recommended by a friend. It ended up taking him 3 weeks to just do five rooms. I ended up firing him and calling in another person to finish the baseboards and laundry room. Half the time he never showed up or if he did he would work for a few hours and then ask me to advance him money. At first I gave him a third of the payment with a promise of another third when he was almost finished. The remainder to be paid upon total completion. The he never did. So it costs me the $4900 to him.
Tips
Make sure you have a good contract with the installer. Never pay in advance and it would help if you called around to some local places like Home Depot and asked for advice. Sometimes hiring thru a reputable store may cost more but in the long run you actually save.
