Description of service
On a recent visit to San Francisco with my family, we signed up to take a trolley tour on a motorized version of the famous cable cars. It was an ideal tour because it took us through the most popular districts in the city - Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Nob Hill, downtown, Chinatown, and along the San Francisco waterfront.
You can pick up the tour at one of three locations: Pier 41, Ghirardelli Square, or Union Square. You can also hop off at any of these three locations and explore and pick up the rest of the trolley tour later.
The price was $18 for adults and $11 for children. Kids under 5 were free if they rode in your lap.
Review of Service
This was, by far, the biggest hit of our vacation. It was a lot cheaper than renting a car and we got to see just about everything San Francisco has to offer. The kids had a blast and loved the motorized cable cars - they're still talking about it! The information given on the tour was very interesting and everyone loved our guide. We asked him a lot of questions about things not on the tour script and he knew the answers - very impressive!
The ability to hop off at three different stops was handy for sight-seeing.
Tips
They don't pick up at your hotel so you need to make arrangements to pick up the tour at one of the three pick-up points. The MUNI bus system in San Francisco is very good and you can take it to any of the three pick up points.
The tour doesn't operate on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years day.
There's a charge for changing dates, so be sure to plan in advance!
