Description of service
Valve adjustment on my Suzuki SV650 motorcycle from an independent shop. I do most of my own maintenance like oil changes, chain and clutch adjustment, etc. but this was a job that was a bit beyond my abilities. I was charged two hours labor at $80.00 per hour, plus parts such as gaskets.
Review of Service
I was happy with the service and the turnaround time. It was done quicker and cheaper than the Suzuki dealer, and I had heard a number of bad things about the local Suzuki dealer so I didn't want to take my bike there. The shop I chose also gave my bike a general looking over and made suggestions for other maintenance items that I'd overlooked (for example, back brake pads were getting a little thin) and recommended a different chain lube than the one I was using.
Tips
Routine maintenance can keep your motorcycle running at it's best. Check if there's a motorcycling bulletin board in your area and see if they review any independent shop. I chose a shop based on recommendations from a riders forum that focused on the San Francisco bay area. Another way is to ask other riders what shops they've had good results with.
