This dentist did a fantastic job with my 6-year-old son. He has teeth just like his father--even with proper care and maintenance, they are "soft", and are susceptible to decay and cavities. This dentist did a remarkable job putting my son at ease. He carefully explained the procedures he was performing, and made sure he wasn't frightening or intimidating like other dentists we had visited in the past. He was soothing, sympathetic, and caring when my son expressed his fear and concern regarding the filling, and was not demeaning or sarcastic--a trait I was very glad to see. The dentist was also very thorough in his exam and instructions to my son following the filling, and made the experience one that he will not be afraid of in the future.

Choose a dentist that makes you and your child feel comfortable. Understandably, in emergency times, it may be difficult to "shop" for a good dentist, but for routine procedures, especially those involving the children, don't be afraid to find somebody else if you don't like your dentist. The first dentist my son saw was not very good at putting the children at ease, even though he specialized in treating children. His staff also was difficult to understand, and I wondered what their business was treating kids. I found a new dentist, and we couldn't be happier! My son loves his dentist, and he is not afraid to go back in the future, which is ultimately the goal.
