Description of service
I got a massage at a massage school. The massages cost $35 each and are 50 minutes long. The massage might be in shiatsu or Swedish style, and you don't know which one it will be until you get there.
The massage therapists are students, in various stages of training. At this school, you can't request a specific student, and you also can't tip your massage therapist.
You fill out an intake form and then follow your massage therapist student into a large room divided by curtains. Since the curtains are the only dividers, you can hear everything that goes on, but most clients are very polite and quiet. Also, the school plays calming music.
The students follow a specific time frame that is outlined on the wall: 5 minutes on right shoulder, 5 minutes on left shoulder, etc.
Review of Service
The therapist I had was obviously not too experienced, but has great potential. I enjoyed the massage, which was relaxing, even if it didn't get all my muscle knots out. For the price, I can't complain! The ambiance isn't there, but you're only paying $35, with no tip, so it's totally fair. I got a Swedish massage.
This school used to have specific days for Swedish massage and shiatsu massage so that you could choose. That was better, because people have different desires, and some people don't want to take their clothes off (Shiatsu).
Tips
A massage school is a risk, but not a very expensive one! If you're not too picky, this is a great way to go, as it's only half as much as regular massage tends to be!
