My husband an I felt it was a good idea to have overdraft protection for our checking account. But back in January we racked up 90 dollars worth of over draft fees, because the bank kept resummiting the check electronically. So the same check came back 3 times in one week.
Review of Service
That seemed to be the only time it had ever done that though. I think it is great to have overdraft protection. It keeps you from bouncing checks which would result in having to pay even more and may. We have had overdraft protection on our account for over 5 years now and this was the first problem we ever had with the bank and it's system. When we called to ask about the situation everyone was very nice and understanding of the situation, but I guess it just works out that way some times. We still were 90 dollars less after the phone call to the bank.
Tips
If you are getting a checking account it is wise to get overdraft protection. Look around though because some banks even offer it free to there customers while others will charge a monthly free for you to have that same protection. Also is sometimes wise just to use a debit card that won't let you overdraft.
