Description of service
The $25 didn't break down at all, it was simply an overdraft fee that was applied anytime that a check was written on an account without having sufficient funds available. The bank would cover the cost of the check plus charge a $25 fee for basically a short term loan (until you deposit sufficient funds to cover the cost of the check and $25).
Review of Service
Overall the service is something I prefer to avoid, but sometimes overdraft does occur. It has happened over $.15; that seemed like a bit excessive, but I can see the need as there would be those who would take advantage of the service if allowed to. The bank simply applied the fee and then notified us that we were off by $.15, of course they covered the check which kept us from getting an overdraft fee from the store as well. So the fee was well worth it as it kept us from having to pay $37.50 from the store.
Tips
Carefully watch your check book to ensure that you can stay away from the overdraft fee if at all possible. It would be nice to have a little advance warning, but it was our fault for overspending/not properly balancing our checkbook.
