Description of service
A nearby college recently offered a beginner's watercolor painting class, including the use of all materials (you didn't have to purchase anything yourself). It was a "between semesters" type of class, offered between the Summer I and Summer II sessions, aimed at getting older, non traditional students to take a second look at what is available at college.
Review of Service
The classes were (thankfully) dumbed down enough so that even I could understand and participate. Although I've always known I was not an artist, I was happy that the criticism I was given was extremely constructive and non-offensive. Everyone's abilities were praised and nobody was left feeling inadequate, no matter how bad they privately thought that they had done.
I would love to do another one of these classes, preferably one done over a period of time (I'm pretty sure this is what they were hoping for when they offered this class.....repeat students). The class has also made me more appreciative of all art forms. I know I don't have the talent to make a living at it, so I really respect everyone that can, even if I don't understand what their artwork is "saying".
Tips
If you like a sampler class offered at a college or university, ask if you can take a series of similar classes at a reduced rate.
