Description of service
I took a group watercolor lesson at a local university. They offered three hour night classes once a week for beginner watercolor lessons. There were about ten people in the class including myself and there was one teacher. She was a professional artist and watercolor painter. We all worked on one still life set up in the center of the room, while our teacher helped us individually with our painting. I paid $50 for the class, which was the only fee.
Review of Service
I really enjoyed the class. I thought the teacher was great. I learned a lot in only a few hours. I really got along with the other students in the class. There was a great dynamic which let us all have a lot of fun. While the class was affordable, the supplies list was not. I was disappointed that the teacher put so many expensive supplies on our mandatory painting supply list, while we did not use all of them during the class. I wish she could have told us more about purchasing art supplies and what types of supplies there are before we got started painting.
Tips
I would really recommend doing some research about different art supplies before you get started. There are many different types of paints, brushes, and paper all of varying quality and prices. If starting out like me, I would suggest looking into student-grade or less expensive materials. I think you'll learn a lot quicker if you don't have to be too precious about your supplies. Also look into a number of different programs for art classes. The one that I took at my local university, as a continuing education class, was great.
