Description of service
The price covered the tuition charge for a one credit hour, semester long, one hour a week beginner's ballroom dance class at a local community college. The class was held on a weekday evening at a high school gymnasium. It covered Tango, Waltz, and Fox Trot in detail, and spent a bit of time on Samba, Swing, Polka, and a few others.
As it was through a community college, they offered a variety of classes priced by the credit hour. Most classes were 3 credit hours though they ranged from 1 to 9 credit hours (the last for an EMT-B certification). Books and supplies extra, as needed.
Review of Service
The instruction was good and both instructors were patient and were obviously experienced.
Being a guy, I had my choice of dance partners. The class was about 24 students and had two instructors, all but me and one of the other students, and one of the instructors, were women. It was a bit sad that that's how things turned out, but everyone seemed to have a good time, and I rotated between a lot of dance partners. I'm sure it'd be a great confidence booster for anyone without my already-god-like self-esteem.
Tips
When you lead, start off with your left foot. When you follow, start off with your right. Either way, take small steps to avoid making your partner stumble, which upsets your partner's rhythm and the flow of the dance. When you start dancing (not the beginning of a song, but rather when you first learn the steps) dance at a distance so you can look at your feet and see what they're doing. Also so you have less of a chance of stepping on their toes. As you gain experience, move closer and strive to maintain a constant distance.
