I never changed my hair color or had highlights before and wanted to try them out. My original hair was a dark black shade about elbow length. I wanted a deep brown shade with crimson red highlights. I paid:
Basic color - $30
Highlights 10 strands - $80
Wash/Blow Dry - $25
Styling - $30
Review of Service
I went to a higher end salon since I didn't wanted to ruin my hair. I had no idea I was going to get charged for styling. I was happy with the result but it took me a long time (about 1/2 hour) just to decide the right shade and the number of strands. I was charged more because I had foil highlights on long hair. Regardless, the price was a little out of my budget, but can't do anything about it.
Tips
Do your research! Ask friends and pick your color and how many strands you want before hand. It's not pretty when you have to make a decision in the salon. Make sure you ask all prices in advance. I didn't ask for styling nor did I know I was going to get charged for it. You can't be offered a refund just because you didn't ask.
