Description of service
A typical "cut and color" includes one color foil highlights, shampoo, conditioner, cut, blow dry and style. My stylist advices that customers normally come every 6-8 weeks for highlights and/or low lights. I am very frugal so I stretched mine to 10 weeks. My hair color is a dark brown, so this may be harder to do on very dark hair. The process can take from and hour and a half to two hours depending on how long your hair takes to process the color. The first time I had my hair highlighted it was $75, but follow up visits have been $55. This does not include tip.
Review of Service
I have been pleased with the outcome of my highlights, especially since I was very nervous about having them done. The foil process is not at all uncomfortable like the old days of caps were, with the exception of the chemical smell. I was very pleased with the cut and condition of my hair. Having it highlighted has added volume and managability to my hair but so far has not left it with a burned or dried feeling. My stylist also offered recommendations about shampoos I could use since she noticed that my home's well water had altered my original color some.
Tips
Always choose a stylist who is knowledgable, attentive, and personable. I think the quality and knowledge of the sytlist determines if your hair will be overprocessed and damaged in appearance. Friends and coworkers are wonderful referral sources. And don't forget to take a book or magazine as you will need to occupy yourself while the color is processing.
