I went for a periodontal cleaning after having had gum grafts. Because I had had gum grafts in three places, the periodontist did not want me to go right back to my regular dentist for cleaning, but wanted to give me a cleaning himself and check and make sure that everything was OK at the same time.
It was a basic cleaning, very similar to any other dental cleaning that I've had before.
Review of Service
My teeth felt very clean and extremely sensitive when they were done. It seemed like a cleaning that my dentist could have done for $50 less, except that the periodontist came and and said, "Yep, everything looks good." The gum grafts did just fine and everything looked good when it was time for the cleaning. They want me to go back for another cleaning next year but I think I will just go to my own personal dentist because it is cheaper and closer to me! I have no insurance right now, so even a slight price difference is difficult to do.
Tips
It is a good idea to get everything checked out but if you do not have insurance, you'll have to take the price into account too. Get an estimate before you commit to anything, just like with any service!
