Review of Service
I hated going to the Periodontist. I was sent there by my dentist since I hadn't had a cleaning or a dental visit in thirteen years and had gum disease and bone loss. It was an excruciating experience. The periodontist was extremely rude, also, and made me feel like a total jerk for not taking care of my teeth and gums in the first place. It was painful, and then to be made to feel like a jerk on top of that was even more painful. There were all kinds of scrapings below my gum line, and after the novocaine wore off, I wanted to cry. Fortunately, mouth wounds heal quickly, and they will usually give some kind of pain medicine if you are hurting, though they made me feel like a jerk about that, too!
Tips
Ask for a second opinion, and don't settle for a periodontist who is going to make you feel badly like I did. There are plenty of them out there who are sympathetic and caring and patient with those of us who are uncomfortable having somebody poking around in our mouths. Also, be sure to ask for something for pain management if you feel you are going to hurt. After the novocaine wears off, who knows how much pain you will be in.
