Description of service
On September 15, 2008 I went into labor and gave birth to my second child, a beautiful seven pound baby girl. The doctor I had been using for prenatal care worked in a practice with two midwives and one other obstetrics/gynecology doctor. The morning I went into labor, one of the midwives was on call, so she ended up delivering my baby. My labor was very fast and basically the midwife showed up and helped with one push and then the baby was born. She delivered the baby, the placenta and took a cord blood sample. The $580.00 was the fee for delivering the baby and nothing else. There were no gratuities involved with this service.
Review of Service
The quality of service was wonderful for the short amount of time spent on my delivery. The midwife was very experienced and had a good bedside manner. It was a short labor, so the midwife really only took part for about 20 minutes, so it did not seem like a great value for the price. We ended up spending $580.00 out of pocket that the insurance would not cover.
Tips
My advice for someone planning on having a baby would be to find out exactly how much it is going to cost to deliver your baby before you go into labor. Find out what your insurance will cover and what amount you will have to pay out of pocket. I did not realize my portion of the bill would be so much so it would have been nice to know before I had my baby.
