Description of service
I took my dog to the vet for a haircut, to get her nails trimmed and for a flea bath and to finish with a bow in her hair. The appointment was for ten o'clock in the morning. She was finished at twelve o'clock noon. My dog had recently taken a swim in the pond outside of our house, so she was extremely dirty and matted. The vet gave me a short lesson on how to keep her clean between visits and assisted me in purchasing the correct trimmers for her nails. He also pointed out that she had a rash on her stomach that appeared to be nothing more than a staff infection. He said she would need to take one pill a day for three days. He offered these to me at no charge. I paid thirty six dollars and eighty cents for their services and that breaks down into twenty-five dollars for the haircut, five dollars for the nail trimming and the flea bath, the bow for her hair, the advice and the medication were complimentary. Taxes came to one dollar and eighty cents (six percent sales tax, I'm in Indiana). I gave the receptionist five dollars for the tip.
Review of Service
I feel that I paid a very good price for all of these services. The staff and the vet himself were very friendly. They all treated my dog as if she belonged to one of them. Considering how dirty and matted she was, I feel that finishing the job in less than two hours was amazing. She looked like she was ready for a dog show. The only thing that bothered me about the whole visit was when they tried to sell me a very expensive bottle of dog shampoo, they insisted that it was the best on the market. This may or may not be true. All I know is, the previous vet did the same thing, only with a different type of shampoo. I would absolutely recomend this vet for anyone who needs a good groomer. He is courteous, his prices are outstanding and the care my dog received from him and his staff was superb. Overall, they done an excellent job and I am extremely satisfied with the services I received. I feel that I got more than I paid for and I will not be taking this dog or my other two dogs anywhere else from this day on.
Tips
For anyone looking to find a good groomer for their dog, do not turn to the yellow pages so quickly. Talk to your friends and neighbors who have pets first. Experience is everything. Take the time to ask questions before you turn your precious pet over to just anyone. This is just what I did and it was well worth the time. Previous to this visit, I had taken my dog to one of the big chain groomers. When I picked her up her hair was all choppy, she was still wet and she was shaking very badly. They told me it was because she could hear the other dogs barking and it was making her nervous. I shouldn't have bought it for a minute, because this didn't happen this time and there were plenty of dogs this time too. They offered me no advice and seemed to be pushing me out the door as quickly as they could. A good dog groomer will take the time to explain what they did and what it is that you should be doing. They will answer your questions and not make you feel as if you need to get out of the way so someone else can get in. I wish I had taken the time before and done some research, then I would have found this vet earlier and my dog would not have been traumatized by the previous groomers who were only out to make a buck. Your hometown vet is more likely to provide much better services at a much better price. Please check them out first.
