Description of service
I paid for a backcombing and a perm initially, and then a smaller fee for a year of maintenance. The perm gives you good dreads right away if you have the appropriate hair length. It is a good idea to get maintenance as there was a noticeable difference in quality after each session, the dreads felt more compact and structurally stable. The initial process took around 5 hours, but you can relax and read something or listen to good music depending on the place. Maintenance is much shorter thankfully, around 1 1/2 hours. Because of the high cost you aren't going to give a percentage tip unless you want to. I gave a 5 dollar per hour tip.
Review of Service
I went to a specialist, I hear you can just ask most stylists places to do it and they will with varying quality depending on how specific you instruct them, you could have a friend do it for that matter. But I wanted dreadlocks I wouldn't have to hassle with and that would look banging immediately. After looking into it I found a place that looked like they knew what they were doing, they had lots of information online and told you the prices straight up. It was going to be expensive but I knew it would be worth it. I was not disappointing and the staff understood that dreadlocks can be a big commitment, they weren't just concerned about the sale but about my perception and understanding of what I was getting into.
Tips
If you are willing to wait dreadlocks can be done cheaper, only paying for the labor of the backcombing and then doing maintenance sessions, but the perm is worth it if you want quicker and better looking results.
