Description of service

It all started when I met another lady who sported some dreadlocks. Next thing I knew I was calling around to see where I could get my hair dreaded.

Well, there aren't very many salons that know how to dread hair. After a few phone calls, I was finally able to come across a hair salon that I thought was able to get my hair done the way I wanted it.

Over the phone I was informed that the service would cost me anywhere from $100 to $400. The dreading process would at least take three to six hours depending on how long my hair was and how thick it was.

It all sounded pretty good to me so I made the appointment for the following day.

Once at the salon the hairstylist oiled my hair down first. She mentioned that that would soften and condition my hair. At the time my hair was a little past my shoulders and the lady worked about five hours on my head.

The whole process seemed pretty simple. My hair was sectioned into one inch pieces and repeatedly teased and twisted.

Review of Service

All in all I was pretty happy with the result.

The employees at the salon were very friendly and outgoing and provided me with reading material and refreshments while getting my hair done.

I ended up paying $350 and I spend around five hours at the salon. It was all worth it because in the end I had a beautiful head of dreads.

Tips

One of the most important things to do before deciding on a salon is to see if they are able to dread the hair the way you want your dreadlocks to look. I found out later that a lot of salons will just twist up the hair and put gel in it and call it dreads. So, find a picture of exactly what you want your hair to look like and find a stylist in your area that knows her job.

Other than that, dreads are fairly maintenance free. I just washed my hair once a week or every three days to keep them smelling good and to keep them clean.

After getting my hair dreaded, it took about a month and a half for my hair to lock up which can take anywhere from one to three months.
