Description of service

The price covered installation of a new drier outlet in the laundry room and a suitable breaker in the breaker box done during normal working hours by a licensed master electrician. The price covered one hour's labor ($55) and the requisite parts.

The company comprises a single individual who does a variety of electrical installations and inspections as well as electrical contracting. Prices are $55 per hour (min 1 hour) (other laborers at market rates, if necessary), plus 10% over cost for any parts or supplies the electrician has to purchase for the job.

Review of Service

We recently bought a drier and found we had nowhere to plug it in (220v appliance, but no 220v outlet in the laundry room). Not knowing much about electricity and such, we called an electrician. It took a couple days too get him on site, but once he was here it took about a minute to cut a hole in the wall for the outlet, and maybe another five to run the wire through the wall and to the breaker box and another minute to turn the power off, hook everything up, and turn the power back on. Everything worked without issue, so we're happy, and the work was done by a licensed professional, so our home owners' insurance company was happy.

Tips

The vast majority of electrical work is entirely trivial. Just because something looks easy doesn't mean it is easy, though. Knowing how to check your work and troubleshoot problems that arise tends to need experience. How's the accounting go for $100 worth of trade's work? Turning a screw: $1. Knowing which screw to turn: $99.
