the Cost of Electricians

We had to have our 1950's era house electrical system upgraded to the modern breaker box with extension pole so the power wires were raised more than 10' above the ground. We also wanted a new circuit ran for a to-be-installed central AC compressor.

The service itself was perfect, with everything being done very cleanly and up to code. I can't fault the installation or materials used in any way. I appreciated the professionalism of the crew, and after they left the actual job site was as if they were never there with the exception of the new functionality. They got all necessary permits and so on without me having to worry about dealing with that paperwork.

It's hard to pay this much money for a service, but when it comes to electrical work it's worth paying more for the experienced, professional installers. I recommend shopping around, but don't just go with the cheapest quote - I got quotes from $900-$2000 for the same job. I noticed the lower priced ones were for a reason; they weren't licensed, and wouldn't (or couldn't) provide customer references, and so on. I certainly don't feel comfortable sleeping in a house where a potential fire hazard may be inches from my bed thanks to a sub-par contractor.
