Description of service
Our dog was brought into the emergency veterinary office when he became suddenly lethargic, had difficulties moving, and had difficulty controlling bladder function. After the initial exam by the Vet, numerous blood tests were run, as well as diagnostic radiography and urinalysis. Based on the results of those tests euthanasia was provided. The services were charged as follows:
Emergency Exam - $70
Complete Blood Count - $37.25
Chem Vet General Health Panel - $82.75
Chem electrolytes test - $10.60
Radiography and interpretation - $111.30
Partial Urinalysis - $18.00
IV Catheter - $35.75
Euthanasia - $40.75
Review of Service
Overall, I found the service provided by the emergency veterinary clinic was exemplary. We were seen to by a veterinary tech almost immediately to be triaged and the vet examined our dog very soon after that. He was gentle with our pet and made us feel at ease. The vet recommended all of the diagnostic tests we had performed; a thorough (if slightly excessive) panel. If I had to name the one aspect of service I least appreciated, it would have to be the recommendation to perform all the tests initially as opposed to performing a CBC, electrolytes, and partial UA and then recommending further test based on those results. Although I did find the service at this vet to be very good, I find the prices for some of the services (such as blood tests) to be excessive.
Tips
Before you need emergency vet services, call around and look into the prices at a few local clinics. Also, consider asking your vet who they would recommend or if they have an answering service for after-hours emergencies.
