Description of service

The cost for the vet to come to our house to euthanise the horse was $120.00.

The cost for the machine with operator to dig and backfill the hole. And drag the horse into the hole was $150.00

Review of Service

The service was appropriate. It is a hard thing to do. The vet showed compassion and quickness when he performed the task at hand. The death was peaceful and quick. The man who dug the hole did his job quickly as to spare us watching it for too long.

We received condolence cards from both people afterwards.

Tips

I know it may not cross your mind at the time, but euthanize your horse outside, preferably near where he/she will be buried. If you do it in the barn you may have to remove a wall to get them out. See if there is anyone who owns heavy machinery who lives nearby, we have an excavator down the street, so on short notice he can drive the machine over. You save money if they don't need to trailer it. Also note where the power lines are in your yard, the machines are typically quite tall and power lines can cause problems. If you have another horse close the barn doors, don't let them watch what is going on, this will be hard enough for them too.
