Description of service
The group therapy session was a three-hour session that was held at a convention room. The session involved one therapist and approximately 12 people in need of therapy attending the meeting. The meeting was essentially sitting on folding chairs in a circle and discussing our feelings, almost like an outreach group, then the meeting switched into more individual therapy by having one on one's with the therapist.
Review of Service
I was not a fan of group therapy, because it seemed too intrusive. While I found it interesting to hear other people's stories and why they were there at the therapy session, I found myself not wanting to share everything and be completely honest when it came for my turn to share with the group. Maybe it was because I was afraid of their judgements or maybe that I felt that being too honest may not be the way to do group sessions. Though the therapist was very helpful, the entire session seemed like a waste of time because I could not be as honest as I could've been because of the group atmosphere, and if I can't be honest, then the therapy will not address my issues.
Tips
I found that, if you are going to therapy in the first place, the first thing you would probably want is someone to talk to confidentially to determine if the problems you are going through warrant any action. If you are looking to save a little bit of money, group sessions can be cheaper, but if you cannot feel comfortable talking about your deep issues in front of multiple strangers then I suggest skipping these types of therapy sessions.
