Description of service
I paid 25.00 per session for 6, one time a week, group therapy sessions. There were 8 people in each of the sessions, and one therapist. The sessions lasted about 1 and 1/2 hours. Each person had a chance to speak directly with the therapist, as well as to other group members. All of the members had something in common they wanted help with.
The sessions started with a short meditation and visualization to get everyone centered and working form their heart. Then the therapist introduced the topic or topics for the day and we each gave our thoughts, and received suggestions.
Review of Service
The service was better then I anticipated. It was very good in fact. I didn't think the sessions would be as effective because it was a group, but I found I was very comfortable with everyone that was in the group so I did not feel shy about speaking up. Everyone was supportive. The therapist was very skilled in group dynamics and kept the sessions on track and on time. She never allowed anyone to monopolize the session.
She was full of relevant and practical suggestions for each of us, and the group as a whole.
Tips
Try to find a personal referral to a group, or at least to a therapist who can then help you find a group. If you can't get a personal referral, ask at your local hospital.
Check out the credentials of the therapist before you join. Find out if there is a pre-determined goal for the group sessions, or if you create goals as a group when you start. Ask if you can switch to another group or get a partial refund if you are not comfortable with the group you join. If you can't attend all sessions do you still pay for all sessions? Ask about confidentiality agreements and safeguards when working in a group setting.
