the Price of Home Appraisals

I paid $315 for a home inspection and appraisal for my 2 bedroom, 2 bath condominium in San Jose, CA. This appraisal was so that I could sell my condo.

The quality of the service I received was very high. The appraiser was extremely thorough and spent 2 hours at my home inspecting it. Not only did they inspect it on the inside to account for the upgrades that I had put in my home, but they had also done research ahead of time to adequately show me the comparable homes in my neighborhood so that I could better understand where the value that they were determining was coming from. They were very helpful in answering all of my questions and in regards to price, they were about the middle of the road. Some appraisers charged more and some less, but overall I was very happy with my service.

The reason I choose this particular appraiser is because my real estate agent informed me that they had a very good reputation in my neighbor for doing accurate appraisals. This meant that as other agents familiar with my neighborhood saw who appraised my home, they would know that it was a fair price because it was done by this particular appraiser. So when looking for an appraiser, make sure you choose someone who is well respected in your neighborhood or town and has a good reputation.
