I took drum lessons for a few months from a local recording studio. The cost was $75 per hour for lessons from an expert.

I took these lessons for a few months and really enjoyed them. The classes were at a recording studio so I was able to try out lots of different types of drums and talk to a lot of people who had a lot of experience and interesting advice for me. The cost was a little high but it also granted me access during business hours to practice at the studio on their drums. As I live in an apartment, this was a huge plus for me and was definitely worth the price. My instructor was great and had a ton of experience and patience. The only reason I stopped was that the price became prohibitive to me continuing.

Drums can be really loud to practice on, especially when you are starting out and it just sounds like noise. See if you can find a place that will also provide a practice space for you. This can also save money for those starting out since you won't have to purchase your own kit right away and can try several out to see what works best for you.
