Description of service
I purchased a series of drum lessons for my teenage son to take over the summer vacation. The lessons are two afternoons a week for four weeks, the lesson is one hour long. The musician teaches in a local music center/studio and the lesson is private. The equipment is provided for lessons but we provided the equipment for practice sessions at home. Sheet music is included. The last session includes a tape of a "jam session" that will feature my child and some local musicians.
Review of Service
The service so far has been excellent, as far as I can tell. My son likes the instructor and feels comfortable at the studio. He is practicing a lot and I think this means his teacher has the ability to motivate him, which is a big plus. The instructor has called me once a week to confirm that my son has attended lessons and update me on his progress.
Tips
Check out the credentials and background of the instructor carefully if your child is going to take a private lesson. Spend some time getting to know the owner or instructor of the studio. Ask around and see if anyone you know is acquainted with this person before you hire them. Ask about the cost of any additional equipment or supplies, the cost of a drum kit is pretty high. Ask if you can rent equipment for practice at home. Find out if advanced classes are offered and what the cost is ahead of time so you can plan for it if your child really becomes obsessed with being a drummer.
