Description of service
Based on the large medical bills that some of my friends have paid, I decided to research and purchase health insurance for my dog. The price of $45 per month provides annual maximum coverage of $14,000, along with limited reimbursement for such activities as physical exams, vaccinations, x-rays, blood tests, and certain medications. There is a $50 deductible and the only things not covered are dental exams and treatment, and the kidney tests that are used to diagnose certain problems.
Review of Service
I have never had to file a major claim, but it is reassuring to know that the insurance will cover any real emergency and the large vet bills. The amount of $45 per month is a little expensive, but about half of the money paid in premiums is paid back to me as the reimbursement for routine exams, treatment and medications, so that makes it a little more reasonable. I have been satisfied with the service and the insurance company has always had agents available to answer questions. I have received the reimbursements in a timely manner, and there is no restriction on the vets that I can use, so I like that feature of the program.
Tips
Before purchasing any health insurance for your pet, consider where you live and the types of activities that your dog participates in to determine if there is enough risk to make the insurance worthwhile. Also, there are several companies that offer pet insurance, so shop around and compare rates, coverage, and the choice of vet provision.
