the Price of Frozen Food Delivery

I had New York steaks shipped from my father's favorite chop shop for his birthday. The cost of 4 filet mignon steaks was $200. The cost of shipping was $50.00. They came next day delivery, packed in dry ice.

This is something I will most certainly not be doing again. My father swears by this particular steak restaurant he used to go to when he lived in New York. He's really been missing it lately so when I found out this place will ship steaks, I thought for his birthday I'd order some from them.

I'm sure that when he ate them in the shop they were delicious and tender. However, having been frozen and then thawed they were a little rubbery and had a little bit of freezer burn. He was touched by the gesture but was let down by the taste.

The store we dealt with was great and very accommodating. They called and let me know when the steaks were shipped and even called two days later to follow to make sure they got here okay and that we were pleased.

If you're ordering something like expensive steaks, you'd be better off to not order them frozen through the mail like this. You can just as easily (and for much less cash) get some great cuts at your local butcher shop.
