My husband and I rented a Dodge Dakota for a weekend to take to an estate sale for $192. That price did not include taxes and we didn't get the add on insurance as our regular full coverage insurance policy covered us anyway.

The vehicle we got wasn't as large as we would've liked, but, considering gas prices nowadays, I'm sure we came out ahead. We got unlimited mileage for the weekend as long as we kept our vehicle within a 4 state region (all contiguous to the state we're in), which I thought was good. If we'd wanted to, we could've gone to estate sales even further away without paying extra in rental fees.

If you're lucky enough to have more than one vehicle rental place in your area, call and compare prices. Our nearest rental agency was 30 minutes away, and the rest were over an hour away, so we couldn't do that.

Rental agencies often give discounts to members of different organizations. Find out what clubs or organizations your local rental agency works with. You could also use a search engine to see if there are any codes or printable discounts you could take in for a discount.
