Description of service
When cleaning out my mother's closet, we came upon some coats and jackets in really good shape, but they reeked of mothballs. We took them in to a local dry cleaner and had all 7 cleaned for $85, which broke down to $9 each for the long wool coats and $6.50 each for the shorter wool jackets.
Review of Service
It took 2 days for our garments to be returned, which wasn't too bad, as it's too hot to even think about wearing them now. It was also pointed out to us that they had mended 2 of the jackets' small tears at no additional charge. Best of all, the mothball smell was significantly reduced. A little time spent on the clothes line airing them out reduced the remaining smell to a bare minimum.
Tips
If you don't normally use a dry cleaner (we don't, we use special kits made for use in the dryer), ask people you know who they would recommend. Upper management at most places is very familiar with this, as I found out by asking where I worked.
While there are a lot of one hour dry cleaners around, they don't always take the extra time for personal touches like repairing small problems. If they do repair these, it is often at an additional charge. I feel very lucky that I wasn't charged for my minor repairs.
