the Cost of Chamber of Commerce Membership

This money was spent for an upper membership tier in our local chamber of commerce. Above and beyond the normal membership fees for the year, this "Active Member" package also includes: the opportunity to sponsor a golf hole at the annual Chamber golf outing, one reservation at each month's Chamber meeting, admission to each session of the Chamber breakfast series, event tickets for the "Community Night/Lantern Awards," monthly luncheon recognition, a business card size ad in the monthly Chamber newsletter, two business table showcase opportunities, and more.

We have been just basic Chamber members for nearly 5 years which is considerably cheaper than this level of membership. But after carefully weighing the options, we decided this was a worthwhile investment. We have enjoyed a decent profile in the Chamber and have been able to contribute to its vitality as much as it has contributed to ours. The ROI (return on investment) for investing in this level of service has been very positive, and I am sure we will do it again when our dues come up for renewal.

Obviously, the greatest thing to consider when joining a Chamber -- and deciding on what membership level you would best benefit from -- is the size of the Chamber and the time you have available to contribute. Just paying dues is not the best way to exercise benefits from the Chamber; involvement is also key.
